Scopus Research Data
All of our research indicators use data from Elsevier Scopus. We receive an extract from Elsevier at the beginning of each year. This extract is used for the QS World University Rankings (WUR) and every other ranking in the cycle following the WUR.
To ensure QS is using the appropriate research data for your institution, please fill in the Elsevier Scopus ID Form you can download HERE.
Academic and Employer Surveys
The QS Global Academic and Employer Surveys provide the data for the Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation indicators that are used in various QS Rankings. QS invites institutions to supply both academic and employer contacts who will be sent the relevant reputational survey as part of our research process.
The surveys are sent to many thousands of global academics and employers each year and the results measure the reputation of institutions and their programmes in the eyes of fellow academics and those involved in hiring graduates.
You can find more information about the process and how to submit contacts HERE.
How can I receive updates from QS about rankings?
Nominating and Managing Your QS Rankings Contacts
To ensure that QS can keep your institution informed about rankings activities, data collection exercises, and rankings releases, institutions may nominate contacts for two distinct roles: Primary Research Contact (PRC) and Fact File Contact.
Please note that the same individual may fulfil both roles, or institutions may choose to nominate different contacts depending on their internal responsibilities.
Primary Research Contact (PRC)
The Primary Research Contact (PRC) is the individual responsible for:
- Submitting institutional data through QS Hub (or other applicable QS data collection platforms)
- Serving as the primary point of contact for data clarification requests
- Managing rankings-related communications on behalf of the institution
- Coordinating participation in QS data collection exercises
Access provided:
- QS Hub
- MyQS data collection modules (where applicable)
Typical communications received:
- Data submission invitations
- Submission deadlines and reminders
- Data clarification requests
- University Data Submission (UDS) communications
- General rankings-related updates
Please note that PRCs do not automatically receive embargoed Fact Files unless they are also nominated as a Fact File Contact.
Fact File Contact
The Fact File Contact is intended for individuals who require access to rankings results and institutional performance reports.
This role is typically suitable for members of:
- Institutional research teams
- Rankings offices
- University leadership teams
- Communications and marketing departments
Access provided:
- MyQS access to embargoed Fact Files and related materials
Typical communications received:
- Fact File release notifications
- Embargoed rankings communications
- Rankings results announcements
- "Out Now" and other rankings-related marketing communications containing embargoed or released results
Fact Files provide a concise overview of how an institution performs across the indicators used in QS rankings, helping universities understand and evaluate their performance relative to other institutions globally and regionally.
How to Nominate a Primary Research Contact or Fact File Contact
To nominate or update a contact for either role, please email rankings@qs.com with the following information:
- Given Name
- Family Name
- Position/Job Title
- Professional Email Address
- Contact Role(s) to be assigned:
- Primary Research Contact
- Fact File Contact

Please ensure that you have obtained the individual's permission before sharing their details with QS.
Once nominated, contacts will receive communications and access relevant to their assigned role(s). We recommend that institutions review their contacts regularly to ensure the appropriate individuals receive important rankings-related information.
