The QS Rankings 2023 rankings cycle has started. All data collected during this cycle will be used to produce rankings beginning with the QS World University Ranking 2023 and ending with Subjects Ranking 2023.
*Please note that our business school and program rankings has its own process and data platform, and this will be communicated separately.*
New Fields in HUB
HUB users will see some changes in the platform for this year. Of particular note is a new section titled 'ESG Metrics'. You can find definitions for all of our fields here. As we prepare to integrate a diverse range of metrics into our rankings suite, it is vital that institutions provide us with up-to-date and objective data. Where this is not possible, QS will seek to source this from third-party sources, but our preference is always to have it submitted directly.
Inclusion Criteria
If your university meets our preliminary inclusion criteria, then your institution may be considered for the following rankings:
- QS World University Rankings 2023 – Expected publication: June 2022
- QS Regional Rankings 2023 – Expected publication: Late 2022
- QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2023 – Expected publication: September 2022
- QS Subject Rankings 2023 – Expected publication: April 2023
The inclusion in any published ranking is of course dependent on our evaluation process. The submission of data does not guarantee that the institution will appear in the published ranking.
Data reporting period for QS Rankings:
For all data, it should cover the academic year previous to our rankings cycle. Our cycles start in November of each year - so, when the cycle begins in November 2021, we are collecting data for the 2020 academic year. This will be approximately Jan to December 2020 for the Southern Hemisphere, and August 2020 to July 2021 for the Northern Hemisphere
How do I submit data for inclusion in these rankings?
You should submit data for your institution through our QS HUB platform. Please contact our rankings team via our helpdesk (Submit a request – QS Quacquarelli Symonds) if you do not have login details, or need further support.
If you do not submit data we will still consider your institution for inclusion in our global and regional rankings. In this case we will source it from other publicly available sources. However, direct submission of data ensures that your institution’s performance is reflected as accurately as possible.
The QS Graduate Employability Rankings, however, draw on some data which are difficult to access directly and we will use estimates if we don’t get a full submission. If you prefer to opt out of the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, you must let us know by the data submission deadline.
Do I need to provide data for the QS Subject Ranking?
All institutions (including subject or subject area specialists) are automatically considered for the QS Subject Rankings. No data submission is required for this ranking. You may however submit academic and employer lists for our surveys.
Survey list deadlines
Submit Academic and Employer contact detail lists by: Friday 4th February 2022
All institutions are invited to help enhance the quantity and quality of responses to our academic and employer surveys by providing us with academic and employer contact details. See here for full instructions.
Institutional data deadline
Submit statistics required for the QS World University Rankings by: Friday 4th February 2022
Since you are either included or being considered for the QS World University Rankings, please complete all critical data and, if possible, the supporting data (including data points that are also used in the Regional rankings). The ranking is due to be published in June 2022.
For the upcoming data collection cycle, we will allow institutions to submit either of the following for their international student numbers: 1) their previously submitted number, or 2) a new submission. We have made the decision to accept data from either of the previous two academic reporting years as a recognition that there has been a significant impact on this metric as a result of Covid-19. You must tick the ‘Use previous submission’ checkbox on QS Hub should you wish to choose option 1.
Submit statistics required for the QS Regional Rankings by: Friday 4th February 2022
We do not need you to submit the same data more than once per year, but our regional rankings may include some additional reporting requirements (such as Staff with PhD), which if you didn’t update with your world rankings data, must also be submitted by Friday 4th February 2022.
Submit statistics required for the QS Graduate Employability Rankings by: Friday 25th March 2022
We invite your institution to be a part of a project yielding greater insight into universities from the perspective of graduate employability. If you are unable to provide data, we will do our best to find what we can. Please note: if you would prefer for your institution not be considered this year, you must inform the Rankings team of this before the deadline. This ranking is due to be published in September 2022.
As you can see, the 4th of February 2022 is a critical date, as this is the deadline for survey nominations and data submission for both QS World and Regional rankings. Unfortunately we are not able to provide extensions, so please let us know if you need any help or clarification to complete the process in time.
