You are obliged to ask for consent from the contacts based within the EU and UK. For the rest of the world, you need to follow the local data protection laws. Most of them also include the need for consent. However, if a contact is in your database already, they might have agreed to your terms of conditions when they shared their details and that might be a valid consent. If you find this to be the case, then there is no need to ask for consent again. Nevertheless, if you have got someone`s information not from them personally, it makes sense to ask for their consent too. This would also increase the likelihood of these contacts actually completing our questionnaire later on.
The need for consent is for the EU citizens and for anyone that is working in the EU or at Universities in the EU (this applies to non-EU citizens as well).
